The Evolution of the Sprint Car

by Joshua Shaw of Detroit, MI

The Evolution of the Sprint Car, from the “rail frame” – to the “tube frame” – to the “caged” – to the 900 horse powered “winged” Sprint Cars of today, will be featured at the 2019 Racers Reunion Banquet. Historian Josh Shaw will cover the transformation of these types of race cars with the greatest power-to-weight ratio in existence.

It was 100 years ago that mavericks such as John Gerber made a living driving, very advanced for their time, homemade race cars. These were not the large street cars with manufacturer backing but roaring machines that entertained the fans and paid good money at the track.
