2017 Racers Reunion Banquet

Our special guest for the 2017 Racers Reunion Banquet comes from a family of winners. The name Unser is synonymous with championships. He personally has 13 victories at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb and is a three-time Indy 500 Champ. The one and only Bobby Unser shared with us his story of success both on and off the track.

Bobby Unser won the Indy 500 in three decades (’68, ’75 & ’81). After retiring, Unser became a television commentator for Indy Cars and NASCAR races. With his keen understanding of driving and colorful comments, he became an award-winning announcer.

Also for the 8th Annual Racers Reunion Banquet, we took a look back at the first 50 years of the International Motor Contest Association (I.M.C.A.). These drivers were the original outlaws of the Midwest fairgrounds. The Fair circuit was a proving ground for many great drivers who went on to win races, championships and legends of fans across the United States. We will looked back at the series that was in direct competition with the American Automobile Association (AAA) for drivers and spectators.

Our third topic was about Hall of Fame pioneer drag racer, Bobby Langley, who was a tool and die machinist during the week for General Dynamics, and traveled far and wide collecting countless trophies for his success on weekends.

Accomplished drag racer Kenny Bernstein once said Langley was his hero growing up. Langley’s trademark car, the “Scorpion”, was a beauty that was featured in Life Magazine, Car Craft and Drag News.
