Arlington Downs was a 1 1/16 mile track located in Arlington that held AAA championship car races from 1947-50.
Bill Blaylock will review a brief history of tracks in Texas, a history of Arlington Downs as a horse track in the 1930s, its other uses during World War II and the 1940s, and its use for auto racing. This will include a review of midget, sprint car, championship and stock car races held at the Downs, and a discussion of some of the notable cars, drivers and racing stories. He will also review the filming of some action scenes from the MGM movie “To Please a Lady” that occurred at the track.
